What’s new

Release notes for WebCAD, newest first. The same notes are in the app.

Edit STL and OBJ files

  • Sketch on an imported STL or OBJ, then cut into it or add to it. A watertight mesh of up to 20,000 triangles becomes a solid on the first cut or addition, and one Undo brings the mesh back.
  • STL files import in seconds; a 50,000-triangle file used to take minutes.
  • Exporting STEP with a mesh in the scene says which parts are meshes and offers STL for them.

Drawings that dimension themselves (Pro)

  • A sheet dimensions its part in ISO or ASME style: each size once, with callouts for holes, bolt circles, slots, radii and chamfers.
  • Click, drag, retype or delete dimensions right on the sheet.
  • Standard paper with a border, title block, notes and revisions; export as PDF, SVG or DXF.
  • Ask CAD Genie for a part with dimensioned views and it opens the dimensioned sheet.

Edit Feature

  • Right-click an extrude, cut, revolve, sweep or loft to reopen it. It rebuilds in place, with everything made from it.

11 languages

  • WebCAD now speaks French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Arabic, as well as English. CAD Genie answers in your language.

Modelling and simulation

  • Cuts and bosses across curved walls now build, and fillets work on slots, pockets and keyed shafts.
  • Large stress studies finish in the browser, with a colour bar in MPa over the model.
  • A Vortices view in airflow studies shows where the flow swirls.

CAD Genie

  • Reads much larger models before it changes them.
  • A request that times out, or that CAD Genie can’t answer, costs no credit.

Airfoils

  • Import airfoil points (.dat, .txt or .csv) into a sketch and extrude a wing section.
  • Lift, drag and pitching-moment polars at the Reynolds number you choose (Pro).

Measure

  • Pick faces, edges and points for lengths, radii, angles and distances, or two parts for the gap between them, in millimetres or inches.

CAD Genie

  • If a model it writes does not build, CAD Genie corrects it once and rebuilds before replying, at no extra credit. The reply says what actually built.
  • Tapered blocks, pointed fins and ribs now build.

Airflow

  • A new default solver, checked against published drag data for spheres and cylinders.

Workspace

  • Drag and drop a STEP, STL or OBJ file anywhere to import it.
  • The status bar shows the cursor position while you sketch, in millimetres or inches.

Sign in

  • Continue with Google: sign in or create an account in one click.

Sketching

  • New relations: tangent, midpoint, collinear, symmetric and concentric.
  • New tools: mirror, trim, extend, offset, fillet, chamfer and patterns.

Materials

  • Assign steel, stainless, aluminium, copper, brass, titanium, plastics or FR4, and studies pick up its properties.
  • Create your own materials.

Simulation

  • Quadratic elements for bending accuracy, and vibration modes you can watch.
  • Cantilever bending within 1% of theory, natural frequencies within 0.05%.

Drawings

  • Real sheets at a standard scale, with a frame and title block, holes and radii called out automatically.
